DELTATRAVELER - v3.1.0 Public Testing Initiative!!! (Preview Build 1)

Published January 5, 2025

Hi there!!! Long time, no see.

This brief devlog with a totally not incendiary name serves to announce two things: The first is that we've been actively working on the game again. I ended up getting burnt out on working on Last Amalgamate, so I shifted gears back to DELTATRAVELER. (although you can watch the first two parts on my YouTube channel right now!!!) We'll see how long this DT streak will go.

The second is that WE ARE DOING A PUBLIC TESTING INITIATIVE FOR v3.1.0!!! Because of how much we're changing with the update internally and with the game design, we felt it necessary to release preview builds as we reach certain milestones. We'll be making these preview versions available for download on the DELTATRAVELER official website, since we want to avoid giving newcomers a potentially broken version of the game.

Speaking of, THIS IS AN INCOMPLETE VERSION OF THE GAME. There are things that may be BROKEN and could corrupt your SAVE files!!! If you choose to participate in public testing, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you backup your SAVE files. (currently located in AppData/LocalLow/RynoGG/DELTATRAVELER on Windows)

With that being said!!! The first preview build is up right now in the "Other Downloads" section of the site if you wanna check it out.

We won't be posting overall changes with the builds on the patch notes section of the site, so we'll just post them here!

= General =

  • Separated inventory system into two inventories: normal items and equipment. Everything in the game should account for this new system.
  • Completely rewrote the overworld menu from scratch.
  • Magic has been separated from the battle manager and dictates itself internally.
  • The box can now store up to 30 items.
  • Setting HP should now not decrease a player's overheal (unless overruled by an event in game)
  • The game should now save each party member's overheal state.
  • Completely changed the party member system internally. That being, the party members are (for the most part) no longer hard-coded to specifically be: Kris, Susie, and Noelle.
  • Expanded mini-party members (Paula), since they now use the new party member system. They now behave more like normal party members, in that they have their own HP (no longer sharing the same HP bar as Kris), and can use and equip items.
  • Moved around some Susie and Noelle sprites (specifically the unhappy and depressed variants).
  • Chocolate Candy now overheals Kris.

= Battle =

  • Because of the mini-party member HP change, Kris can autoheal and be revived independent from the mini-party member, and can be up even if the mini-party member is downed.
  • When Kris is down while Paula is up, the ACT button will become a PSI button.
  • You can no longer use the punch card in battle if Susie isn't in your party.
  • Updated Frisk and Chara icons.
  • Decreased DEF on Big Ribbon but increased its MAGIC.
  • Paula's PK attacks are now weaker if she doesn't have the Big Ribbon on (doesn't affect her heal/shield)
  • Fixed a crash where the battle manager tries to load the second page of the items menu when you're selecting a party member to give an item to.
  • Item button now darkens when inventory is (or will likely be) empty.

= UI =

  • The stat menu can now show what magic/abilities party members have.
  • Added Key Items to the inventory screen.
  • Added remarks for every applicable weapon and armor (and bandage heal)
  • Gameplay timer now shows hours like in the new version of DELTARUNE.
  • Added different types of buttons for different scenario (small text, speech bubbles, papyrus)
  • Added sprite for PS Share button.
  • Changed a few Switch button sprites to both match the Switch better (capture button) and to not (colored buttons).
  • Changed the name of the button styles for PS4 and Switch to be more generic (PS and Nintendo)
  • Fixed Noelle's portraits (thanks toby)
  • Tried to improve remark accuracy to DELTARUNE.

= Section 3 =

  • Fixed a couple Waterfall rooms that had their tiles replaced.

We have a lot of things to get to in v3.1.0 (including more content updates!!!), so expect more preview builds to come. We will announce each one when they release. The only new content that the previews won't contain is the Arena Mode.

See ya soon!
